Project Description:

Construction activities in the west wing of building 455 consisted of approximately 4,750 square feet of renovation to the existing office space to accommodate new administrative offices for the NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service).  This renovation primarily consisted of offices and storage space. Special design challenges for this phase of work were pertinent to create an open storage secret area to comply with SECNAVINST 5510.36, Chapter 10. All spaces were to be located in the secured space except the Lobby/Waiting Room and Interview Spaces. The perimeter walls of the secured space were constructed or modified to meet the open storage secret standard cited above. The secured area was constructed to encompass on entry/exit door connecting to the Lobby/Waiting Room, and one exit door at the other end of the area.
The renovation also included rooms such as the Evidence Room and Server that required X0-9 (combination locks) in conjunction with AD-300 locks as part of the security system.  A combination of  AD-300 locks (networked), AD-200 locks, and X0-9 locks were used in this space as well as motion sensors in specific rooms as a part of the security/IDS (Intrusion Detection System).  The secured space also includes emergency lights that are amber and red at four areas inside the wing. These lights can be activated (either red or amber) from the reception desk as well as the interview rooms as a part of the IDS.
Another notable feature of this space includes a secure wall that separates the Lobby/Waiting Room from the rest of the offices.  This wall is constructed with a bullet proof membrane that encompasses a level 5 bullet proof glass opening with a deal tray and bullet proof speak through. The interview spaces consist of two interview rooms and a common area where the fingerprinting machine sits. The walls separating the two interview rooms from the common (Monitor) area have a one-way observation window. Also there is the ability to dim the lights in the common room.   Adequate sound attenuation surrounds the interview rooms to create a sound proof environment (STC50 for walls and ceiling, STC45 for doors) as well.  The office spaces surround a large conference room for training and development and also consist of a small break room for lounging. The break room and the copy/fax room include laminate casework upper and lower cabinets with solid surface countertops for a professional atmosphere.
